When I first came to New Zealand, I was shy because I couldn't speak English but I've got many good friends who played with me.

At Roydvale School, I enjoyed doing gymnastics, Jump Jam and doing lots of activities with fabulous teachers. I learned all the values and the values are responsibility, respect, learning and perseverance. I also learned lots of English with Mrs Yoong.

My best memories are having good friends, speaking lots of English and playing with my friends. My favourite subjects are writing and reading.

At Roydvale School, I like the sport shed because there are basketballs, tennis rackets, skipping ropes and netballs.

At Roydvale School I was excited because New Zealand school is different from Korea.

In 2007 I was in Mrs McGowan's class. She was so nice to me. Every Tuesday Mrs Perriam taught us. She was fantastic because when she came to our class she always taught us fantastic art. It was really fun.

My first friend was Kahlia. She cared about me all the time. I am thankful to her.

When I came to New Zealand I couldn't speak English at all so Mrs Yoong took me. After 4 months (maybe) I was better than before. In 2008, I was in Mrs Bockett's class. She is my wonderful teacher. In 2008 my English is so much better than in 2007. I am thankful to Mrs Yoong.

Everyday I am happy, so I think New Zealand is better than Korea. I like Roydvale School. I had a great time in Roydvale School.

I came to Roydvale School one year ago. When I first came here, I felt so excited.

It was too difficult because my English was not good enough but I made many friends. I have learned English at Roydvale School and that helped me to understand school work. My friends helped me to be good at English too.

I like to play on the monkey bars and tag with my friends. In the classroom, I like topic work the most. I like Mr Robinson who taught me last year. I like him because he was so kind to me and helped me a lot.

I think Roydvale School is good. I feel excited about going back to Korea but I will miss New Zealand, Roydvale School, my friends and my teachers.

I was a little bit nervous when I had my first lesson with Mrs Bockett. I just wanted to go home and I hated school. I could not talk or understand anyone.

Now I can understand the school rules so I don't get into trouble. The best thing I like about school is my friends. I play tag with my friends. I learned English the most. Now I can understand English a lot. I am thankful to my teachers and my friends.

Hi,
My name is Joo Ho Han. I am nine. I am from Korea. I come to Christchurch with my Mum to learn English.

I arrived in New Zealand in December 2005. I saw Mr Dolan and Mrs Yoong on my first day at school. I didn't know how to speak English at all. I was so nervous. Mrs Yoong, My ESOL teacher gave me some English books to read during the holiday. I read them with my Mum everyday. At freetime I practised golf with my Korean friend. I thought New Zealand was a big country.

When it was 2006, I was in Mrs Cleghorn's class, Room 6. For a few months I couldn't understand what the teacher was talking about. I copied other people's work. My teacher and my friends were kind to me. They waited until I got the answer.

What I liked most was morning tea and lunchtime. I liked it because I could play tag and balls with my friends. I made a lot of friends when I could speak English really well. On Wednesday mornings I played chess. I was not good at chess when it was my first time, but when I had a lot of lessons, I could play it really well. I've got a Pawn badge and four Knight badges. I am proud of my five badges.

I have enjoyed a lot of sports at Roydvale. I played basketball, soccer and tennis. I got into the Raiders, the basketball team of our school. In the near future I want to get into the Rams.

I have lots of friends; they are Kyle, Xavier, Scott, Hamish, Cameron, Bailey, Conner, Nathan and Harris. They were kind to me all the time. I want to see them when I grow up.

I am going back to my country, South Korea on the 30th of June. I have stayed in Christchurch for one year and a half. I thank Mrs McGowan, Mrs Cleghorn and Mrs Yoong. They helped me a lot. I will miss all of you.

I came to New Zealand on 14th December 2005. I went to Roydvale School on 7th of February, 2006.

The first time at school was extremely hard because I didn't know what to say or ask. I thought, "Man it is hard!"

However, I love Roydvale School, especially the work. There are no textbooks at all. The thing I enjoyed most was Maths because I was really good at it. It was easy because I have already learned it in Korea.

I don't really have anything that I hated at Roydvale but only one thing I hated was cross-country because I haven't done running in Korea. So it was hard. However, now it is easy and I can speak English. I learned how to make things with wood and I learned to make a Maori Tiki.

It was awesome to study at Roydvale!!
