Education Review Office
We think Roydvale is a fantastic school. Set in an attractive, well maintained environment. We have wonderful children, effective and caring teachers, brilliant support staff and welcoming and supportive parents.
But don't just take our word for it, this is what the Education Review Office had to say in 2007:
"Students experience high quality teaching across the school. The teaching of literacy and numeracy is a strength in all classrooms. Students learn in an environment that is stimulating, attractive and well managed. Teachers set clear expectations for learning and behaviour. Students' learning successes are acknowledged. Teachers share the purpose for lessons with students and help them relate new learning to their previous knowledge. Their work is valued
and high quality samples of students' work are attractively displayed in classrooms. ERO observed high levels of engagement in learning across classes. Students said that the teachers supported them well at their level of learning.
Class programmes offer individual, group and whole-class learning opportunities in addressing identified student learning needs. Teachers encourage students to understand and use learning strategies that promote independence. They provide students with very good oral feedback about their learning successes. Students' learning successes are acknowledged within the class and at school assemblies. Students said they enjoy the classroom and playground environment.
Teachers use effective teaching strategies gathered from their professional development programmes. "The school's analysis in areas such as literacy and mathematics shows that most students are achieving above expected levels for each age group. Students who are underachieving are provided with good quality teaching. Their learning needs are identified through diagnostic testing and helpful programmes are prepared for them. Students who are withdrawn from class receive teaching from trained teachers. Some students receive in-class support from teacher-aides. Each student's progress and achievement are monitored from year to year.
Relationships between students, teachers and parents are respectful and supportive. The development of a family culture is a strength of the school. Older students support younger students in both learning and social contexts and form supportive relationships. This cooperation extends to the playground where students mix well across age groups.
Parents are proud of the family culture they experience within the school. They feel welcome in classrooms. There is a high level of parent participation across a range of school activities. Parents consider they are well informed about their children's learning. Teachers use analysed samples of work to provide feedback to students and their parents during interviews. These samples help parents track their children's progress and achievement over time."
